Way Back Home

Took a long walk in the rain
Used the darkness to hide the pain
Flashback to last time that I came this way
It was dark and wet and only yesterday
I never meant to find myself back here
I should be with my mates having a beer
Instead I'm facing down my growing fear
Walking again this road to nowhere

The witching hour comes
Shadows loom and I can't find my place
So close to giving in
The end is nigh if I can't find a way
And then a whisper says

When it comes down to the wire and your back's on the ropes
And the night is dark
The walls are crumbling down
A raging river tries to sweep you off your feet, it's cold
The numbness, sweet, starts to beckon so
If you only keep your head up for a little while
And watch the stars
Fight the current's pull
Dawn will come to paint a road across the eastern sky
Light fires of hope to find your way back home

Fear can take your breath away
Always lurking, haunting, soulless gray
Never let your guard slip or start to fray
Next minute you're down and out, can't even pray
What to do when the walls start closin' in?
Laugh it off, make a joke, take it on the chin?
Or do you run away and hide in bed
Pull the covers like a kid up over your head?

The witching hour comes
Shadows loom and I can't find my place
So close to giving in
The end is nigh if I can't find a way
And then a whisper says

When it comes down to the wire and your back's on the ropes
And the night is dark
The walls are crumbling down
A raging river tries to sweep you off your feet, it's cold
The numbness, sweet, starts to beckon so
If you only keep your head up for a little while
And watch the stars
Fight the current's pull
Dawn will come to paint a road across the eastern sky
Light fires of hope to find your way back home

When the dawn comes
It will reveal to see
All of the love you need
Is already found
When the sun sets
As long as you've basked in it
Darkness can't make you quit
Love's all around
Let the tears fall
They will release and heal
All of the pain you feel
Find your way home
